My art is about the wonder and mystery of the life force.
Raised on the shores of the Mediterranean, and trained as a photographer, I paint with the colors of light. Seeing nature's colors, shapes and patterns nurtures and sustains me. So I use color, organic shapes and fractal patterns to express life's elemental beauty and vitality.
When I paint, I empty my mind and follow where the paint leads me. Sometimes I obliterate a painting, allowing a new, more vibrant image to arise from an earlier image's demise. Many layers of paint may build up a thick texture on the surface of the canvas. Like ruins and archeological layers, the texture carries a history of creation. Sometimes what is most important is seeing through to earlier layers.
My work is multivalent. For example, a recent abstract painting looks like a mask, dancing figures and/or vines. The newest works are increasingly abstract, and tiled to create large paintings. Their individual panels are whole paintings that, together, create a new dynamic synergy.
My iconography developed during extensive painting expeditions to sacred sites around the world. Due to my expeditions and subsequent art exhibitions, I was invited to become a member of the esteemed Society of Women Geographers.
