"Hearts
and Seeds" is a series of symbolic paintings about honoring
one's sacred space. In making these paintings, I was aware
of exploring emotional and intellectual content of unusually
simple and direct meaning.
For example,
a seed is truly a treasure that holds within its skin its
own remembrance or history, plus its own future, and the
future of its offspring into perpetuity. A heart is a being's
core, one's true north. One's heart can be wounded, scarred,
seared, frozen, revived, reconstructed and renewed.
It is possible,
speaking symbolically, that a burnt heart---over time---can
grow new tissue and bloom into a bouquet-like organ of unimaginable
brilliance. Likewise, a reinvigorated heart can transmute
ancient pain into a source of transformative wisdom.
Does the
way to a transformative future lie in heeding our hearts
and honoring our seeds?
These
paintings were painted on the shores of Lake Champlain in
Vermont.
