The
“Earth, Sea and Sun” paintings
consist of several series of paintings. In the “Sea”
series, the perspective moves from deep within the sea’s
fathoms to the surface of the sea’s waves with its
ever-changing patterns and rhythms. The “Sun”
series explores the quality of the sunlight on barrier islands
and how that golden light shapes the island’s plant
life, the curvature of its footprint, and the repetitive
lines left in the sand by the surf. One wall-sized painting
made up of ten smaller paintings explores the glowing, fiery
intensity of summer sunshine on island flora and fauna.
Another series, “Earth,” explores such themes
as the earthiness of trees growing in black loamy soil,
and the separation of the leaf from the tree.
These
paintings were created in Fire Island and Garrison, New
York.
